Wrap-Up Blog Post

My favorite Project over the course of the semester was the logo design project.  I really liked this project because it really allowed the user to create really anything that they wanted to.  Also, I thought the tools for the tool bar were easier to learn while creating this project giving me more room to use my imagination.  Since I want to go into the Advertising/marketing field, learning all of the Adobe software put me one step ahead of my peers.  It gave me a solid base to expand my knowledge on all of the software products.  Although this class didn’t influence my decision in picking my major, it did make me realize that I really liked the subject.  Knowing that I enjoy the subject that I plan on majoring in boosts my confidence in thinking that I picked the right field of study. I had absolutely no background on adobe software before, so really anything that I learned exceeded my expectations of the course.  I didn’t really look outside of the courses instructions to find help with the class material.  I thought that the course instructor had very detailed and clear instructions of how to complete every assignment.

I was unbelievably lucky to have the opportunity to travel to Europe this past summer with my basketball team.  We visited, stayed, and played in three different cities; Bratislava, Prague and Vienna.  My favorite city would have to be Bratislava because of the old European feel to the area and all of the neat little shops and restaurants. I originally took lots of videos to show my friends and family when I returned home to the States.  However, they sure came in handy for this assignment!  In the video I tried to include footage of different architecture, cities, and landscapes as I pieced together my project.  I also tried to mix in a few pictures to help show some of the things that I experienced and was able to see. I had a lot of fun playing with the effects for the pictures and all of the different fade in and fade out options for my titles in the beginning.  I thought that by putting some special effects into the project would only make it more interesting.  Originally, I didn’t want to have any audio in my movie, but after reading the peer review on my rough draft, I decided to put some audio recording in to explain where I was and what the pictures showed.  I tried to keep the audio limited however, mainly to keep the focus on the pictures and video.  I had a lot of fun making this video, and was glad that I could put all of my videos and pictures from Europe to good use!  This was, by far, the hardest Adobe software that we had to learn.  I feel that this was because it incorporated little parts of each previous software and that this project was almost comprehensive due to the build up of knowledge.  Although I had a lot of fun in Europe, I am glad that I can call the United States my home…Theres nothing quite like America!

After viewing the example videos posted on the website, I was able to generate some ideas of what I wanted to make my video about.  I decided to create my video after the Europe trip that I took with my team this summer.  I already had video footage on my phone from multiple scenes in different cities like Vienna, Prague and Bratislava and multiple pictures of the countryside and of my endeavors on the trip.  In my movie, I decided to mix a good balance of pictures and video.  I thought that this method showed the details of my trip the best. I also tried to add animation in my movie by putting the titles in the beginning and have them come in at different parts of the video in the beginning.  I also tried to scale the pictures to fit the movie screen, but some of them were an odd shape so I struggled to get the pictures to fit the screen perfectly.  I had a lot of fun in Europe and made some great memories.  I hope that this video depicts how much fun I had and how many amazing memories that I made.

This final sound audio post was hard for me to create because I thought that I accomplished most of what I wanted it to be on the rough draft.  I obtained the idea for my audio story from the examples that were posted on the class website, and found them extremely beneficial in helping me create my audio story.  My dad came to visit me during the last weekend, so I thought that it would be a perfect time to interview him and get some audio for my story.  He gave great insight into my project and helped me portray my life through someone else’s eyes.  My main goal in creating this audio story was to share with readers my background, and ultimately to connect with people through my struggles and background in life.  I firmly believe that by sharing a personal story or narrative of your life, a person cannot help but feel a stronger connection to you as an individual.  In my final draft, I ended up only making a few changes.  One of these changes was to raise the volume of my dads speaking part.  I tried to make it match the same volume of my own recording.  Another thing that I fixed on this recording was that I too out a few more ‘umms’ and ‘likes’ and tried to put a few more spaces so the recording sounded more natural. I originally was going to put music into the background of the audio, but decided against it because I felt that it would take away from my audio footage.  For me, it is hard to focus on two things going on at the same time and I didn’t want anything getting in the way of my audience exactly understanding what I was saying.  Like I said above, I didn’t make too many changes, but just minor tweaks to get my audio footage where it needed to be.

Audition Rough Draft

In this assignment, we were asked to create a sound byte that would represent the topic for our blog.  Since the topic of my blog is ‘All About Me’ I decided to create a piece of media that told about my life and how I came to be at Washington State University.  I hope is that when people listen to my recording, that they will better understand me as a person and can hopefully relate to some of my struggles and experiences that I have had in my life.  I got some of the ideas for my post from some of the examples posted on the class website.  I found that they were very helpful in not only generating ideas for the project, but also for giving a good explanation of what was expected for the project.  I tried to tell my life story and also incorporate some comments from interviewing my dad to back up my points.  In my final, I would like to add perhaps another person to my life account, just to make it more interesting!  I tried to cut out all of the ummm’s and pauses and also tried to keep it so it sounded natural.  I used the razor tool to cut out the unnecessary parts of my speech and used the move tool to move all the sounds right after one another.
